The Boys have an opener for their Halloween gig at Kelsey's & these performers can really entertain! We caught up with the talented duo & wanted to share with you what we found out!

Here are some questions we posed to our outstanding performers!

1. Give an introduction:

Hey y’all. I’m Nate (Bockus). Vocals, guitar. I grew up here in North Platte but I lived in Fort Collins in Denver for 20 years. I had a skateboard accident & broke my hip and femur so I came back to North Platte to heal. That was about five years ago. Andrea Andrews, Vocals, kazoo, and occasional percussion. Andrea’s from Idaho. Her family moved around a few different places before settling down in North Platte in the 90s.

2. How did you form the band?

I have been in a number of bands and music projects since I was a teenager. When I Moved back to North Platte a few years ago, I was playing a lot of solo shows. I heard Andrea singing one day and asked if she would be interested in joining me on stage for a few songs. We originally had just a couple songs that we’d throw in near the end of my solo shows, but it was great to share the stage with Andrea, and we got a lot of positive feedback from the crowds, so we just kept adding more songs to our performances. We eventually got to the point where we could play full 3-4 hour sets together.

3. What kind of music do you play?

Our music covers a pretty wide genre range, but if I had to describe our sound, I would put us in the indie-folk category.

4. How did you come up with your name?

That’s a great question…I’m actually not a big fan of the name. The media almost never gets it right, and people tend to only remember part of it, but when we first dialed in the name I wasn’t super concerned because it was just a little side project from my solo stuff I was doing at the time. Andrea had a Godzilla-like dream about a giant robot fighting a giant bee, and that name was in her head after the dream. We kept getting shows booked under that name so it’s just kinda followed us through the years. I keep saying I’m going to change it but it still hasn’t happened.

5. How long have you been together?

think it’s been 4 years now.

6. Do you play covers or originals, or both?

A mix of both. We have a ton of originals, but we also love to take songs people know and add our own flavor to them to change ‘em up a bit. We like playing old 80s hits and recreating them with more of an acoustic indie folk sound.

7. Who are your musical influences?

When I started playing guitar regularly in the mid 90s I would get together with a bunch of my buds every night and we’d all have our guitars and just jam and vibe off each other. I think that’s influenced me more than any big name musician ever has. There was some amazing music that was never written or recorded and could never be recreated. Those days have always pushed me forward to create more. I listen to a ton of music and a wide variety of genres…I’m influenced by all of it really.

8. Where are your favorite places to play gigs?

We play at a lot of really great venues. Every spot has its own vibe, so it’s nice to have the comfort of playing regularly at a venue…it’s equally thrilling to play at a venue we’ve never played at. I’m not sure I can name a favorite venue, but I can’t think of a place we haven’t enjoyed playing, so that’s a good thing!
